[Afterword]
The information in this brochure covers only airport landing areas because each community will want to develop its own ideas as to the provision and operation of airport buildings, hangars, service facilities, concessions, and ground transportation systems.
Obviously, Shell is not in position to make definite recommendations as to the type of airport needed. But ever since the birth of the aviation industry, Shell has been one of the outstanding leaders in helping develop the air pattern of America. And because of this long and close association with every phase of aviation activity, Shell is logically in position to recommend immediate planning for the forthcoming "age of flight".
In cooperation with aircraft engine designers and plane manufacturers, Shell will continue its active interest in the aviation field—an interest of many years standing. One of Shell’s outstanding contributions was the development and production of the first commercial quantity of 100-octane super aviation fuel—more than ten years ago.
SHELL S AVIATION EXPERIENCE IS YOURS FOR THE ASKING
The importance and practical utility value of any airport, or airpark, will be determined by the degree of service it provides in supplying the needs of airborne traffic. That’s why the efficient handling and dispensing of high quality aircraft fuels and lubricants is of primary interest to any organization or community active in airport management.
So, when your committee has considered all the factors pertaining to the type of airport needed, feel free to call a representative of Shell Oil Company, Incorporated, for advice and suggestions on any problems relating to the handling, storage, or dispensing of aviation fuels and lubricants. Shell maintains a staff of specially trained technicians to co-operate with you in solving just such problems as these. And that assistance is yours for the asking ... without the slightest sense of obligation.
AND NOW ...
Shell sincerely hopes that this brochure will:
Firstly, stimulate renewed and intensive interest in the development of modern community airport facilities;
Secondly, offer practical suggestions that will help your aviation committee to initiate a long range airport plan so that your area will be in a position to grow apace with the tremendous aviation development which is already foreshadowed.
